First Safe Blood Transfusion Center Of KP Starts Functioning

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th August, 2016) : The first ever safe blood transfusion center, a joint venture of Federal Republic of Germany and KP government has started functioning at Hayatabad here Saturday. This newly established state-of-the-art blood transfusion center has been set up under Safe Blood Transfusion Project with an estimated cost of Rs.
190 millions. On the occasion Project Director, Safe Blood Transfusion Project KP, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir Khan told that the centre was equipped with modern, sophisticated and fully computerized medical equipment as well as trained and qualified staff to ensure safe transfusion of blood as per international standards. Regarding blood collection in RBC, it was told that blood was collected from voluntary blood donors.
The blood before transfusion was screened for Hepatitis B, C, AIDS, Syphilis and malaria. From one Blood bag three products were separated and then supplied to blood banks of six attached Hospitals in Peshawar including Lady Reading Hospital, Khyber Teaching Hospital, Hayatabad Medical Complex, Institute of Kidney Disease Peshawar, Maternity hospital Nishtarabad and Naseer ullah Baber Hospital Kohat Road Peshawar. It was also told that after successful completion of RBC Peshawar, provincial government had signed another agreement with government of Germany under which three more centers would be established at Abbottabad, D.
