LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Oct, 2017 ) :The construction work of a world-class 25-storey twin tower will start very soon as pre-qualification of contractors has been completed by the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) for building the mega structure at a cost of Rs 3.81 billion, on a 20 kanal land here at Jail Road.
LDA Director General Zahid Akhter Zaman informed this while briefing a group of 16 probationary officers of 45th Common Training Programme at Civil Services academy here on Monday, who visited the office of LDA at Johar Town.
The DG said that project for widening of Lahore Canal Road from Upper Mall to Harbanspura, at a cost of Rs 7 billion, was in final stage. The construction of two underpasses, on both sides of the canal, at Choubacha Railway crossing has been completed and finishing touches were now being given to the construction, he added.
He said the LDA had played a pivotal role in developing world class infrastructure in the city by completing scores of mega projects during the past few years. It was now finalizing arrangements for construction of missing links of various structure plans roads besides executing underpass at Gurumangat Road Railway crossing, establishment of a theme park at Johar Town and a number of other projects.
Additional Director General Urban Planning Khyzar Afzal told the delegation that LDA had launched development works for setting up basic infrastructure in its new housing scheme LDA City.
He said the LDA had approved PC-1 worth Rs 30 billion for executing development works in the scheme.
A sum of Rs 2 billion has been allocated in LDA's current budget for carrying out development works including construction of roads, electricity, water supply and sewerage net works as well as provision of other basic amenities, he added.
He said that phase-1 of LDA City, comprising of five sectors, was spreading over 31,000 kanals of land. The construction of a 2.1 kilometer-long and 180 feet wide approach road from Gajjumatta, Ferozepur Road to scheme has already been completed at a cost of Rs.
1.13 billion. The scheme has also been provided a link from Katcha Flyover, on Katcha Railway Crossing along Defence Road, he added. Additional Director General (HQ) Samia Saleem, Additional Director General (Housing) Zeeshan Shabbir Rana, Team Leader Record Sifting Ms.
Beenish Fatima Sahi, Chief Town Planner Khalid Mehmood Sheikh, Director Metropolitan Planning Shakeel Anjum Minhas and other officers briefed the visiting officers about the organization, functions, performance and future planning of LDA, and its subordinate agencies Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) as well as Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (TEPA) for the development of infrastructure in the provincial metropolis.
