ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th August, 2016) : Hurriyet leader, Syed Yousuf Naseem on Saturday urged the United Nations to take effective measures to resolve the longstanding issue of Kashmir which would ensure peace in the region. Talking to APP, he said, a number of innocent Kashmiris have sacrificed their lives due to Indian forces' atrocities and UN was playing a role of silent spectator.
He said, "United Nations played its active role for taking up Kashmir issue during the years 1949-1964 however now it is not playing an effective role in this regard". He said United Nations and the international community should play their role in resolution of the longstanding Kashmir issue as per aspirations of Kashmiris.
Kashmiris should be given their right to self determination so that they can live in a peaceful atmosphere, he said. Referendum in Kashmir is the only way to move forward toward resolving this issue and giving the right to Kashmiris to live freely and elect leader of their own choice," he said. United Nations has to take up this issue through arranging dialogue between all the stakeholders to stop bloodshed in the Indian Occupied Kashmir. He said, Hurriyet forum would continue to extend moral and diplomatic support for realisation of the right to self determination of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
