Sharma highlights importance of Rizwan’s wicket in shifting momentum in India’s favor
NEW YORK: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 30th, 2025) Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma has described Mohammad Rizwan’s dismissal as the decisive turning point in India’s narrow victory over Pakistan during the T20 World Cup 2024.
Speaking after the high-voltage encounter held in New York, Sharma highlighted the importance of Rizwan’s wicket in shifting the momentum in India’s favor.
“Rizwan’s dismissal was a huge breakthrough for us, especially since he was well set at the crease. It came at a crucial time and changed the course of the game,” he said.
Praising Rizwan’s abilities, Sharma added, “He is a quality batter who has won many matches for his team. Getting him out was the key moment.”
The turning point came in the 15th over when Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Rizwan for 31 on the very first ball of the over, with Pakistan’s score at 80.
Pakistani team struggled under pressure and managed only 113 runs for the loss of 7 wickets while chasing a modest target of 120 set by India.
India clinched the nail-biting match by just 6 runs and continued their unbeaten World Cup record against Pakistan in T20 format.
