TORONTO: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 17th, 2025) French President Emmanuel Macron t cautioned against any attempts to forcibly overthrow the Iranian regime, calling such actions a “strategic mistake,” and noting that similar efforts in the past have ended in failure.
Macron revealed during a media briefing at the G7 summit in Canada that the United States has extended a formal proposal to Iran for resuming nuclear negotiations and establishing a ceasefire with Israel.
Macron said that the US initiative aims to de-escalate rising tensions in the middle East, and the international community now awaits Iran’s response.
“If Iran agrees to the offer, it could open the door to lasting peace in the region,” said Macron.

The revelation comes as tensions between Israel and Iran have reached a dangerous high.
Four days ago, Israeli airstrikes targeted Iranian facilities, reportedly killing six nuclear scientists and several senior military officials. In response, Iran launched a wave of retaliatory attacks which have left at least 24 people dead in Israel and more than two dozen casualties reported in Iran.
The White House confirmed that President Donald Trump would be cutting short his visit to the G7 summit due to the rapidly deteriorating situation in the Middle East.
The diplomatic efforts are now intensifying as the global powers seek to prevent a broader regional conflict.
