RAHIM YAR KHAN: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 12nd, 2025) Veteran actor Rasheed Mehmood was assaulted by an enraged group of individuals in Punjab’s Rahim Yar Khan district, following a minor traffic incident.
The actor was attacked after a collision involving his vehicle. The mob not only beat him but also damaged his car and forcibly took his national identity card.
As a result of the assault, Rashid Mahmood sustained internal injuries to his face and chest.
Recounting the incident, the actor said he was on his way to pick up his wife from Rahim Yar Khan. Near the Rahim Yar Khan interchange on the motorway, he mistakenly turned his car in the wrong direction. While driving near the Shaikh Zayed Bridge, he encountered a slope and a dirt mound, at which point a speeding motorcycle appeared. The motorcycle was carrying a man, three women, and two children.
Rashid Mahmood said the motorcycle collided with his vehicle at such speed that he was startled. After the crash, all passengers on the motorcycle fell to one side but fortunately, none suffered serious injuries. However, a crowd quickly gathered and, without any investigation, began physically assaulting him.
He stated that the mob not only damaged his car but also attempted to snatch his ID card and other belongings.
The actor added that a kind-hearted individual intervened, rescued him from the mob, and took him to a safe location before informing the police.
Later, Rashid Mahmood received a call from the local police station, during which he was asked to provide his address and contact details.
Shaken by the ordeal, Rashid Mahmood said the incident left him deeply traumatized. "Had someone else been with me, perhaps this unfortunate attack could have been avoided," he remarked.
The fans and members of the entertainment industry strongly condemned the incident, urging the authorities to launch a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
