Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb says introduction of a new classification system for income tax, under which existing distinction between filers and non-filers will be eliminated
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 10th, 2025) Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Wednesday announced strict measures to enforce tax compliance, declaring that non-filers will no longer be allowed to purchase vehicles, immovable property, or open bank accounts.
Presenting the Federal budget in the National Assembly, the minister revealed the introduction of a new classification system for income tax, under which the existing distinction between filers and non-filers will be eliminated.
“Only individuals who submit their income tax returns and wealth statements will be permitted to engage in major financial transactions,” Aurangzeb said. These transactions include the purchase of vehicles, real estate, investments in securities and mutual funds, and the opening of specific types of bank accounts.
He further highlighted the challenges posed by the rapid growth of online businesses and digital marketplaces, stating that such platforms have made it increasingly difficult for traditional, tax-compliant businesses to compete.
The measures are part of the government’s broader strategy to widen the tax base and promote a fairer taxation system.
