Trump reveals Putin plans retaliation after massive Ukrainian drone strikes

US President Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a lengthy conversation which lasted over an hour

WASHINGTON/MOSCOW: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-June 5th, 2025) Former US President Donald Trump revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin signaled a forthcoming response to Ukraine’s recent drone attacks on Russian military airbases, the international media reported on Thursday.

The statement came after a lengthy phone conversation between the two leaders and lasted over an hour.

According to Russian officials, the two heads of state discussed a broad range of international issues during the call, including the ongoing Ukraine war, the Iran nuclear deal, and rising tensions between Pakistan and India.

Following the call, Trump took to social media to share details, stating that Putin “very firmly” expressed his intention to respond to the latest drone strikes by Ukrainian forces, which targeted Russian airfields deep within its territory.

“This phone call won’t bring peace immediately between Russia and Ukraine,” Trump wrote, “but continued dialogue remains essential.”

The conversation also touched on the Iran nuclear issue, with Trump noting that Putin appeared open to assisting in potential nuclear negotiations with Tehran.

The call comes in the wake of a dramatic escalation in Ukraine’s drone campaign.

According to Ukrainian intelligence, the drones breached Russian airspace by as much as 2,500 miles, inflicting what analysts described as one of Russia’s most devastating airbase attacks to date — likened by some to a “Russian Pearl Harbor.”

Ukrainian sources claim the attacks destroyed more than 40 Russian fighter jets and caused an estimated $7 billion in damages, including the destruction of one-third of Russia’s cruise missile stockpile.

Earlier, a Ukrainian intelligence officer in Kyiv alleged that on June 1, the country’s Security Service (SBU) coordinated a large-scale drone assault, severely crippling Russian aerial capabilities.

Trump emphasized that communication between major world powers remains critical — even amid ongoing conflict — to prevent further escalation and explore diplomatic solutions.
