All is set to observe the 12th anniversary of deadly earthquake of October 8, in 2005 across Azad Jammu Kashmir on Sunday

MIRPUR Oct 7 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 07th Oct, 2017 ) :All is set to observe the 12th anniversary of deadly earthquake of October 8, in 2005 across Azad Jammu Kashmir on Sunday. The day will dawn with special prayers in mosques across AJK for departed souls .

It will be a state holiday throughout AJK. �In AJK�s capital city of Muzaffarabad, the day will be marked with the demonstration of deep-rooted love and affection by the government and the people of Pakistan as well as the national and international NGOs and brotherly countries who contributed in rebuilding and rehabilitation of the quake-hit zone of AJK�, official sources told APP here Wednesday.

�Besides, special functions in various parts of AJK to pay tributes to the victims of the catastrophe and to raise awareness among the people about adoption of precautionary measures to avert losses in case of any natural catastrophe, will be the hallmark of the anniversary which had turned bulk of AJK into rubble this day 12 years ago�, the sources added.

In Mirpur, the major ceremony will be held at the Mirpur cricket Stadium Fateha Khawani will be held for the martyrs and sirens will be blown across the country at 8.59 a.m and two minutes silence will be observed for the victims of the catastrophe at a ceremony to be held at Quaid-e-Azam Cricket Stadium, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Raja Farooq Akram said while chairing a meeting held in DC office.

A walk of the children dwelling Kashmir Orphan Relief Trust (KORT) Complex Mirpur, who had their parents in deadly earthquake, will be held from Quaid e Azam Stadium to central Shaheed chowk. The post-quake mega Development Projects have so far been completed in the AJK capital in the wake of the broad-based phased plan to reconstruct and rehabilitate the AJK metropolis on modern grounds comprising civic and other infrastructural facilities, the sources said.

Similar special ceremonies including walks for awareness, seminars and symposiums will also be held in various parts of AJK including Mirpur, Kotli and Bhimber districts in the memory of the martyrs which left over 74,000 people dead and lacs injured in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa and Azad Jammu & Kashmir.

The ceremonies will be attended by the people representing all walks of life including social and political workers, lawyers, journalists and members of the business fraternity to pay tributes to the victims of history�s worst catastrophe. APP/ahr/maj/mub
