Renowned Urdu Poet Ahmad Faraz Remembered On His Eighth Death

ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News -25th Augst,2016) : Renowned urdu poet Ahmad Faraz, ranked among the greatest Urdu poets of the current era was remembered on his 8th death anniversary on Thursday.
According to a private news channel, he was deeply influenced by the works of Faiz Ahmad Faiz, his friend and role model, and has been able to earn acclamation because of his elegant yet simple poetry. Born in Kohat on January 12, 1931, Syed Ahmad Shah (Faraz's real name) received his education from Peshawar and received Masters degree in Persian and Urdu from Edwards College.
He later taught at Peshawar University as well. He was a member of the Progressive Writers Movement (PWM) as well.
Tanha tanha, Be-awaz gali kuchon main, Sab awazain meri hain and Shab-e-khun are among his literary works.
Faraz was detained during the Zia era for writing poems that targeted the military. He went on to live in exile for a number of years and produced some of his most acclaimed literary writings during this tenure. Upon his return to the country, he was appointed as Pakistan Academy of Letters Chairman and also served as chairperson of the National Book Foundation. Ahmad Faraz was the recipient of a number of national and international accolades, including the Nagar Award, Sitara-e- Imtiaz and Hilal-e-Imtiaz.
Faraz breathed his last on August 25, 2008.
