KARACHI, (Pakistan Point News - APP - 23th August, 2016) : U.S. Consul General in Karachi, Brian Heath, and Sindh Education Minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar inaugurated a state-of-the-art school in Kolab Jial, Khairpur. A US Consulate statement on Tuesday said that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) provided funding for the school's construction as part of the Sindh Basic Education Program (SBEP). It said that USAID Deputy Mission Director Denise Herbol, USAID Senior Policy Advisor Randy Hatfield and Sindh Education Secretary Fazlullah Pechuho were also present.
`The United States strongly supports education in Pakistan, and this is just one of the 106 state-of-the-art schools that USAID is constructing in partnership with the Sindh government', said Consul General Heath. He said that here more than 500 boys and girls will be able to learn and grow in an environment designed to help them realize all of their natural talents and abilities. This will enable them to live better lives and strengthen Pakistan as a nation.
Sindh Education Minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar expressed his appreciation to the U.S. government for its strong support. `We are very grateful to USAID for helping us rebuild schools to increase the number of facilities and quality of education. USAID is also helping the Sindh government implement much needed educational reforms', he said. USAID-funded SBEP will construct up to 106 modern school buildings in eight districts of Sindh. Currently, 60 schools are under construction with four schools inaugurated in April and May 2016. SBEP aims to increase and sustain student enrollment in Primary, middle and secondary public schools in selected areas of Sindh. Working together with the Sindh government, the program will enroll 10,000 more girls in schools and teach 400,000 more children to read.
