Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the youngest daughter of business tycoon Thaksin Shinawatra, has been nominated by the Pheu Thai Party
BANGKOK: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-August 16th, 2024) Thailand's Parliament has elected 37-year-old Paetongtarn Shinawatra as the new Prime Minister of the country.
According to international news agencies, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, the youngest daughter of business tycoon Thaksin Shinawatra, was nominated by the Pheu Thai Party. She was chosen as the Prime Minister by receiving votes from over 314 members out of 493 in the House. Paetongtarn Shinawatra is now the third female Prime Minister of Thailand and the youngest ever to hold the office.
Previously, former Thai Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont spent years in exile following a military coup in 2006 and returned to the country last year.
He ran for office and was elected but was removed by the court within a year for violating his oath by including a convicted individual in his cabinet and committing ethical misconduct.
