RAWALPINDI: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-August 9th, 2024) The details of agreement between the government and Jamaat-e-Islami have come to light after successful negotiations last night.
The agreement outlines several key measures aimed at addressing economic challenges.
Among the Primary commitments, the government has agreed to increase revenue while minimizing the tax burden on the salaried class. There will be an immediate reduction in electricity bills and taxes, alongside the introduction of an effective income tax system targeting large landowners and landholders.
To further address economic concerns, a committee will be established to resolve the issues faced by traders and exporters.
Besides it, a comprehensive review of the contracts with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) has been agreed upon.
A task force dedicated to this matter will complete its work within a month. In a related move, the payment of electricity bills for August will be deferred for 15 days, and capacity payments will now be linked to a reduction in the per-unit cost of electricity.
The task force will comprise the Chairman of WAPDA, the Auditor General of Pakistan, and representatives from the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI). The agreement also includes various government task force points.
Other notable elements of the agreement include a forensic audit of K-Electric and a decision to limit the use of government vehicles to 1300cc.
The government has also pledged to reduce prices and taxes on essential food items.
