Bill opposing Pakistan, China Introduced in U.S. Senate

The proposal calls for treating India as a key ally, on par with Israel, South Korea, Japan, and NATO.

WASHINGTON: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 27th, 2024) A Republican senator has introduced a bill in the U.S. Senate targeting Pakistan and China.

Senator Marco Rubio presented the bill, which aims to support India in countering China’s expanding influence and addressing perceived threats from Pakistan. The proposal calls for treating India as a key ally, on par with Israel, South Korea, Japan, and NATO.

The legislation suggests stopping aid to Pakistan and mandates informing Congress of any actions against India. Additionally, it advocates for strengthening “strategic diplomatic, economic, and military relations” with New Delhi.

If passed, the bill could significantly affect Pakistan, especially as Islamabad and Washington seek to improve their bilateral ties.

Senator Marco Rubio, who has served in the Senate since 2011, ran for the presidency in 2015 and won several states in the primaries before withdrawing from the race in 2016.
