Judge Khalid Arshad questioned why Khan was not presented in person to which prosecutor explained that security issues prevented his physical presence in court.
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/Pakistan Point News-July 15th, 2024) An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has ordered a 10-day physical remand for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in connection with 12 cases related to the May 9 riots. Imran Khan appeared via video link due to security concerns.
During the hearing, Judge Khalid Arshad questioned why Khan was not presented in person. The prosecutor explained that security issues prevented his physical presence in court.
The prosecution sought Khan’s remand to investigate footage from the May 9 incidents and stated that the investigation would take place in Adiala Jail, where he is currently held.
The defense opposed the request for physical remand, arguing that it cannot be granted without the accused appearing in person. Khan’s lawyer, Usman Gul, emphasized that proper procedures for video link attendance were not followed.
Azhar Siddique, another defense attorney, pointed out the need for either a government notification or court permission for video link appearances.
Judge Arshad noted that he had spoken with Khan via video link and found him in good condition.
Earlier, investigation police formally arrested Imran Khan in connection with the May 9 attack on Jinnah House. The police, citing sections related to incitement against the state, sought to transfer Khan to Lahore for investigation, but the Rawalpindi court denied this request due to security concerns.
Besides it, Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi are currently on a six-day physical remand in a separate Toshakhana case, which lasts until July 19.
