SWM Organizes Interactive Session At USPCAS-W

As part of the orientation week for the newly enrolled 3rd batch of U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) at Mehran University Engineering and Technology (MUET) Jamshoro
HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th Aug, 2017 ) : As part of the orientation week for the newly enrolled 3rd batch of U.S.-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) at Mehran University Engineering and Technology (MUET) Jamshoro, the Society of Water Managers (SWM) organized an interactive session on Tuesday at the lecture theater of the Center.
The session involved introducing the students with the aim and objectives of the society. Dr. Bakhshal Lashari, the chief patron of the society shared with the participants that the Society of Water Managers (SWM) was formed by students of the first batch on World Water Day 2016.
He said that SWM can play a pivotal role in raising awareness about the importance of water and sustainable practices in water management at community level. Dr. Lashari said that the society will also serve as a common platform for the networking of alumni of the Center to organize the activities related to water education and research.
He advised the new students to come forward and take an active part in society's activities and help the student body grow. He also appreciated the planned activities of SWM about the establishment of water and environment awareness clubs in the schools and colleges.
Dr. Lashari assured his volunteer support for the accomplishment of the proposed agenda of the society and its objectives. On this occasion, Muhammad Wajid Ijaz, member SWM shared with the participants the aim and objectives of the Society.
He mentioned that the society aims to establish a strong networking link among the water experts, researchers, water practitioners, and policy makers at the country level.
He briefly talked about the past activities and future plans of the society.
Later, students were engaged in an interactive session. On this occasion, the founding members of the society and volunteers including, Daniyal Hassan, Muhammad Nauman, Azizullah, Fatima Zaidi and Tauseef were presented token of appreciation for their efforts.
Dr. Bakhshal Lashari, Project Director USPCAS-W and Rakhshinda Bano, the patron of the society presented the shields to the founding members and former office bearers of the society. Later on, Uzma Imran, Gender Focal Person conducted a session on the women empowerment and informed the new students regarding the gender equity policy of the Center and MUET.
Shahid Panhwar, Monitoring and Evaluation Specialist also interacts the students for their expectations and queries regarding the academic, research and social activities. The newly enrolled students of 3rd batch also registered themselves with the society by submitting the registration forms and ensured their active participation in the activities of the Society.
Top management of SWM reiterated the determination to hold the elections of the society to bring forth the senior and junior students. The water center at MUET was one of three Centers established in the country with the generous support by U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Pakistan in December 2014.
