MOGADISHU, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th August, 2016) : One civilian was killed and four others wounded in the Somali capital Mogadishu after a car loaded with explosives was detonated near a busy intersection overnight, police said on Friday. The explosion happened in eastern Mogadishu on Thursday evening after a car chase through the city. "Security forces were chasing a car loaded with explosives when it went off near Sinay intersection," said police official Ibrahim Mohamed.
"The violent elements wanted to harm civilians but their attempt was foiled by the national intelligence agency.
" Mohamed said the drivers of the vehicle abandoned the car at the junction, after which it exploded. "Only one civilian was killed," he said. Witnesses said the blast started a fire at a nearby petrol station. "There was fire at a fuel station which was later put out by fire fighters," said Abdulahi Osman who was close by at the time.
"I saw four wounded people. Some of them were burned, but they were not serious injuries." There was no immediate claim of responsibility but the Al-Qaeda aligned Shabaab militants frequently carry out car bomb attacks in the city.
