Hindu marriage bill 2016 depicts community's longing

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 19th August, 2016) : Member of Standing Committee Bashir Virk has said that all proposals and suggestions of Hindu community had been incorporated in the proposed Hindu marriage Bill-2016.

Talking to Voice of America (VOA), he said that besides representatives of Hindu community and all other stakeholders were taken into confidences and their proposals were included in the proposed bill.

Bashir Virk said there are penalties for violating the provisions of this act and anyone who kidnaps a married Hindu woman will be liable to punishment after this law is approved, because the victim's family will be able to show proof of marriage.

Talking to VOA, Member of National Assembly (MNA) Ramesh Lal, said it took around 10 months for the committee to clear the bill and another six months for its report to be presented in the House. He said the delay was probably due to extraordinary debates and discussions about the bill.

MPA Mahaish Milani said that this subject has become not a provincial one and PPP provincial government has already passed such a bill in Sindh, therefore, this bill does not relate to Sindh province.
