167,000 Army Personals Required To Conduct Population Census

ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Augst,2016) : As many as 167,000 army personals are required to conduct the 6th population census in the country. "There are in total 167,000 blocks across the country and one enumerator would take care of each block", an official of Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) told APP here. The official added that it was decided by the Council of Common Interest (CCI) that one army man would be deployed with each enumerator in order to ensure safe and smooth process of the census. He informed that 100 per cent work had been completed on the civil side but Army was not still in a position to provide such a huge number of army personals at a time.
He said that the government was also mulling over conducting 6th population census in phases due to shortage of resources. To a question, he hoped that the 6th population census would be conducted within the current fiscal year. He said that an amount of Rs 14.2 billion was allocated for the population census in the previous year out which Rs 2 billion were also released for initial preparation of census.
