CM Meets Agriculturists

HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Augst,2016) : A delegation of the farmers' representatives met Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah and called for reforming the provincial government's agricultural policies to support the sector's growth. The delegation comprising the office bearers of Sindh Abadgar board and Sindh Chamber of Agriculture called upon the CM here Wednesday at the Shahbaz Hall of Shahbaz Building. According to details of the meeting, both the organizations submitted written recommendations to the Chief Minister emphasizing on the need of timely fixing the official price of 4 major crops including wheat, rice, cotton and sugarcane. The 7-point recommendations of Sindh Chamber of Agriculture include declaring agriculture sector as an industry and improving the process of providing agricultural loans to farmers by issuing the irritants created by the Sindh Revenue Department.
The SCA also proposed the government reanimate the defunct Sindh Seed Corporation because farmers in the province were confronted with the problem of low quality seeds as well as a shortage of seeds. The SCA also pointed out the rampant use of hazardous chemicals, pesticides and fertilizer on the crops which was harmful for the human health and called for measures to curb that practice. The SCA put forward a proposal of forming a coordination committee of the officials from the Agriculture, Irrigation, Livestosk and food Departments as to adopt a holistic approach towards solving problems of the sector. The SCA also demanded an honest monitoring of the projects financed through the agricultural loans obtained from the international financial institutions like the World Bank.
