Seminar calls for implementation of Urdu as official language

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th August, 2016) : Chairman Press Council of Pakistan Justice (retd) Salahuddin Mengal on Tuesday called for early implementation of urdu as official language of the country. Addressing a seminar on Quaid-e-Azam and Urdu here, the chairman PCP said Senior advocate Kokab Iqbal had made great contribution by taking the case of Urdu in the SC and getting a verdict in its favour. He said human rights of the people had been written in the constitution and time had come to implement the constitution in letter and spirit. He said in the Holy Quran, Allah Almighty has said that HE has never changed the fate of any nation which does not strive for it. Mengal said in the Quetta tragedy a large number of educated youth lost their lives which was a conspiracy against the nation. He also called for revising the educational curriculum for creation of awareness among youth as the new generation does not know anything about Paksitan movement and history of Muslims of the sub-continent.

Kokab Iqbal said Quaid-e-Azam had stated that Urdu will be Pakistan's national language and its opponents were enemy of Pakistan.

He clarified that he was not against English, however he filed the petition in the SC and his demand was that Urdu should be given the status promised in the constitution. He said he had filed another petition with the plea that the participants of Central Superior Service examination should be given choice to attempt the papers in Urdu as well. Federal Secretary Faridullah Khan, Member National Security Division Khushdil Khan,ex-ambassador Salahuddin also spoke on the occasion. At the end of the seminar a resolution was adopted calling for early implementation of Urdu as official language and allowing CSS candidates to attempt papers in Urdu as well.
