ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Augst,2016) : The family courts in Islamabad have disposed off more than 10,500 cases since 2013 to March 2016, the official sources told APP here on Monday.
Eight family Courts are functioning in Islamabad as two are working in Districts and Sessions Divisions- East Islamabad and six in District and Sessions-Divisions- West Islamabad. The District and Sessions Divisions- East Islamabad decided 859 cases in 2013, 632 in 2014, 946 in 2015 and 281 in first three months of 2016. Likewise, District and Sessions Division-West Islamabad decided 3413 cases in 2013, 1333 in 2014 and 3040 in 2015.
The sources said that as many as 1775 cases were pending in eight family courts of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT). About the problems being faced by these family courts, it was told that a number of problems are being faced in disposal of cases which included contemporary laws dealing with family suits. The sources said that custody matters need to be amended according to present era, especially Family Act, 1964.
Limited space, no proper separate rooms/meeting place available for visitation of minors with their parents are other problems. The same is done in court rooms which are already too small, they maintained. Government departments do not cooperate for implementation of orders passed by the family courts in execution proceedings.
There is no mechanism to procure the attendance of counsels on the date of hearing which is the main problem in the disposal of family cases, they added. Shortage of court staff and facilities including clean water, washrooms and proper sitting place in the premises and in the courts are also big challenges in smooth working of courts. Family courts deals with much aggravated issues of parties which require proper security, therefore the security of family courts may be increased, they added. It further said the Government has provided ample spaces for family courts and arranged to construct a new building for District Judiciary of ICT at G/10.
