Khawaja Sara Society Rejects Transgender Community Statistics

PESHAWAR, June 5 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 05th Jun, 2017 ) : The Khawaja Sara Society (KSS) Monday rejected statistics of transgender community by social welfare department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and demanded to release correct data.
Addressing a press conference here at Peshawar Press Club, President KSS Laila said that the transgender activists completely rejected the statistcs provided by the Social Welfare Department who claimed that there are only 1000 transgender community in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and only 137 in Peshawar.
Laila said that Social Welfare Department has failed to conduct the survey in appropriate way. She said that the claim of Social Welfare Department that there are 137 transgender communities is nothing more than a joke.
She disclosed that 1800 to 2000 transgender community resides only in Faqirabad, Dalazak road and Gulabahar. She said that the department has failed to utilize a single rupee on the welfare, protection and empowerment of transgender community.
With the efforts and interest of Advisor to Chief Minister Mushtaq Ghani, the provincial government has earmarked Rs200 million for the welfare of transgendered community of the province which the department has failed to utilize in an efficient way all which has raised question on political will of PTI led provincial government she said.
A renowned Guru and a transgender activist Arshady said that we demand the KP government to release the credential, trainings and resource allocated by the social welfare department for the registration of transgender persons in KP.
Zaiba a transgender activist said that this is not the first time that Social Welfare Department has come up with irresponsible statement. The KSS demanded the department should release their correct data otherwise they will march towards the office of the Secretary Social Welfare and towards Provincial Assembly.
