MUET Observes World Environment Day

HYDERABAD, June 5 (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 05th Jun, 2017 ) : The Institute of Environment Engineering and Management (IEEM) in collaboration with U.S-Pakistan Center for Advanced Studies in Water (USPCAS-W) of Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) celebrated World Environment Day on Monday at Jamshoro Campus.
The Vice Chancellor Mehran University Prof. Dr. Mohammad Aslam Uqaili who was the chief guest of the ceremony of World Environment Day said that the environment is basically attitude of human towards the nature, which affects the whole scenario.
In order to achieve the sustainable development, people have to adopt environment friendly behavior and optimistic attitude to nature, he said and added that everyone has to play his or her vital role to solve the problems pertaining to the basic needs of the communities.
He said that though the man has been given attitude of respect to nature but he still needs to be guided properly to live a life that could be more respectful towards nature. Dr. Uqaili said that by adopting the modern technology with positive attitude could bring the change in the society.
The Deputy Director USPCAS-W Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar said that celebrating that day annually since 1973 aims at sensitizing the people to keep the environment clean and neat.
The man was created from soil and water, the key components of the environment, he said adding that contamination of any of two will affect the human being ultimately.
Healthy life is subject to condition of the healthy environment, he maintained. The students of different departments of the University participated in the interdepartmental competition of declamation, poster and project exhibition contests on the theme of the day which was Connecting People to Nature.
In different contests, 1st positions were awarded to Abdul Aziz Mahar in project exhibition, Faiz Abro in declamation contest and Saqib and Ms. Zunaira in poster competition. Besides, Touqeer Abbasi, Meer Haider and others also got positions in the different contests.
Among others, Prof. Dr. Tahua Hussain Ali Pro-Vice Chancellor MUET, Prof. Dr. Khan Muhammad Brohi Dean, Prof. Dr. Bakhshal Khan Lashari, Project Director USPCAS-W, presented the winning trophies and shields to the position holders of the different contestants.
Murk Group of Drama Theater from Hyderabad also presented stage show on the importance of the World Environment Day. The guests also visited the project exhibitions and posters related to the different applications of environment, water, sanitation, energy, agriculture.
