EU Funded Balochistan LG Training Concludes

QUETTA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Augst,2016) : The European Union (EU) funded training workshop held in the provincial capital Quetta by Balochistan Rural sports Programme (BRSP) for elected representatives of local government institutions under Balochistan has been concluded here. A spokesman for BRSP said here on Thursday, that around 11, 719 LG representatives had participated in the training workshops being held in the districts of Balochistan for capacity building, skill development of LG representatives and to inform them about different aspects of the Balochistan Local Government Bill. "The eight-day training workshop held in Quetta was attended by mayors, deputy mayors, chairmen, vice chairmen and councilors including males and females from districts including Quetta, Pishin, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Zhob and Shirani," he said.
He said that European Union has been providing financial assistance for the joint venture of BRPS and Balochistan Rural Development academy (BRDA). BRSP's Chief Executive, Nadir Gul Baraich and BRDA's Director General, Hanif Baloch delivered their lectures to highlight important aspects of Balochistan Local Government Law.
"LG system is a basic unit and a core of democracy and it is need of hour to transfer powers to grass root level," they emphasized. They further said, it is need of hour to inform the LG representatives about the importance and different aspects of Balochistan Local Government Act 2010.
"Balochistan Local Government Act 2010 provides provisions to make LG bodies more functional so that masses could avail benefits from the LG system properly," they said. "Around 11, 719 elected representatives of local government bodies including males and females were attend the training programmes in all districts of Balochistan,".
The training workshops were being held under Balochistan Local Government Act 2010. The spokesman concluded that BRSP and BRDA had already provided training to 180 master trainers who have now been training LG representatives including mayors, deputy mayors, chairmen, vice chairmen and councilors.
