Rivers Indus Still In Low Flood

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Augst,2016) : The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said River Indus is flowing in Low Flood at Kalabagh, Chashma, Taunsa and Guddu Barrage. According to daily FFC report on Thursday, other main rivers including Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing normal.
The river flows and reservoir elevations indicates that Tarbela and Mangla reservoirs are at elevations of 1531.90 feet and 1239.85 feet respectively, which are 18.10 feet and 2.15 feet below their respective Maximum Conservation Levels of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet.
The combined live storage capacity of Tarbela, Chashma & Mangla reservoirs is 12.750 MAF as compared to last year’s 13.571 MAF. According to Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, yesterday's Monsoon Low Pressure Area over Eastern Rajasthan (India) and adjoining Western Madhya Pradesh (India) has become insignificant, whereas yesterday’s Depression still persists over Western Bengal.
Yesterday’s trough of Westerly wave continues to prevail over Kashmir and adjoining areas. Seasonal Low lies over Northern Balochistan. Weak moist current is penetrating into upper parts of the country upto 4000 feet.
As predicted by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, scattered thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls is expected over the upper catchments of all major Rivers including Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala, Lahore & Bahawalpur Divisions, besides, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Peshawar, Kohat and D.
I Khan Divisions) and Northeastern Balochistan during the next 24 hours, which may generate flash flood flows in local nullahs (tributaries of Rivers Chenab & Ravi) and hill torrents of D.G Khan and Kohat Divisions during the same period.
Sharp peaks of Medium to High Flood Level is expected in River Jhelum at Mangla (Inflow). Significant rainfall events reported by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore during the past 24 hours, include; Ravi Syphon = 86 mm, Faisalabad = 62 mm, Jhang = 52 mm, Lahore (Luckshami = 51 mm, Johar Town = 42 mm, Misri Shah = 38 mm, Shahi Qilla = 34 mm, Shahdara & City = 30 mm each, Samanabad = 27 mm, Iqbal Town = 24 mm, Mughalpura = 21 mm, Township & Taj Pura = 18 mm each, Airport = 17 mm, Gulberg & Upper Mall = 13 mm each & Gulshan Ravi = 12 mm), Kallar = 41 mm, Sargodha (City = 40 mm & Airport = 21 mm), Barkhan = 23 mm, Sahiwal = 22 mm, Kasur & Zafarwal = 20 mm each, Saidu Sharif = 19 mm, Dir = 18 mm, Malamjabba & Palandri = 17 mm each, Gujranwala & Zhob = 16 mm each and Mandibahauddin = 15 mm.
