SNGPL Providing Uninterrupted Gas Supply To Consumers: Ministry

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th August, 2016) : Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) is currently providing uninterrupted gas supply to its domestic and commercial consumers as well as to power, CNG and fertilizer sectors, official sources in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources said Wednesday. "With the import of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and injection of re-gasified LNG (RLNG) into the system, the gap between demand and supply has been mitigated to a great extent.

It has enabled SNGPL to ensure uninterrupted supplies to its consumers," they told APP. At present, they informed that the country's average gas production was 4,000 mmcfd (million cubic feet per day) against the estimated demand of more than 6,000 mmcfd, showing a shortfall of 2,000 mmcfd.

"Currently, on average 4,000 mmcfd RLNG is being injected into the system," they said. The sources said the government had accelerated efforts to explore conventional and unconventional resources aimed at meeting energy needs of the country. During last three years, they said oil and gas exploration companies had made 84 discoveries, following which around 631 mmcfd gas and 27,359 barrels per day (bpd) crude oil production had been added to the system.
