Ordinance To Make Anti-quackery Laws More Effective

LAHORE,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Augst,2016) : A video-link conference for the eradication of quackery in Punjab was held in a committee room of the Civil Secretariat on Tuesday. Additional Chief Secretary Punjab Shamail Ahmad Khawaja presided over the conference while commissioners and DCOs were also present besides the provincial secretaries of departments concerned with senior officers participated. He said the proposed package of reforms in the shape of better legal coverage was in its final shape which would be promulgated soon as an ordinance.
The conference was informed that there were 62,920 registered doctors and lady doctors with basic MBBS degree in Punjab, but more than 48,000 quacks were also doing unlawful medical practice especially in slums and rural areas.
The situation needs to be rectified through stringent action against quackery. The district administration in collaboration with the Punjab Health Care Commission and Divisional Quality Control Board should consider option of cancelling licences of MBBS doctors who provide shelter to quacks.
