Lawyers Boycott Court Proceedings Against Quetta Carnage

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th August, 2016) : The legal fraternity here on Tuesday observed black day and boycotted court proceedings in protest against the Quetta carnage. The lawyers hoisted black flags on the bar buildings and wore black armbands to mark the day.

The lawyers completely boycotted court proceedings at sessions courts, Aiwan-e-Adl, Model Town courts, Cantt courts, Banking courts, etc. However, they appeared in urgent cases at the Lahore High Court (LHC).

The Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) arranged for Ghaibana Namaz-e-Janaza for the victims of the blast. LHC Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Justice Anwaar-ul-Haq, Justice Mamoon Rasheed Sheikh, Justice Mazhar Iqbal Sidhu, Justice Ameer Bhatti, Justice Abdul Sami Khan, Justice Shahid Bilal Hassan, LHC Registrar and staff besides a large number of lawyers and bar office-bearers attended it.

The Lahore Bar Association (LBA) convened a meeting of its general house, which was chaired by LBA President Arshad Jahangir Jhojha and a large number of lawyers attended it.

The speakers condemned the blast and demanded the government to take effective measures for security of lawyers. Later, the lawyers offered Ghaibana Namaz-e-Janaza for the blast victims. Vice Chairman Punjab Bar Council Chaudhry Muhammad Hussain and other bar members held a press conference wherein they condemned the blast and demanded the government to improve security at the district and tehsil bars and compensate the victims financially.
