Moderna CEO Expects COVID-19 Pandemic to End in 2022

Moderna's chief executive officer, Stephane Bancel has expressed optimism that the COVID-19 pandemic, which has killed millions of people around the world, could end next fall, given the growing production of vaccines

ZURICH (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd September, 2021) Moderna's chief executive officer, Stephane Bancel has expressed optimism that the COVID-19 pandemic, which has killed millions of people around the world, could end next fall, given the growing production of vaccines.

"If you look at the growth of production capacity across the entire industry over the past six months, there should be enough doses available by the middle of next year so that everyone on Earth can be vaccinated," Bancel told Swiss newspaper Neue Zurcher Zeitung.

When asked if a return to normal life is possible in the second half of 2022, Bancel said that this could happen in a year.

Moderna's CEO added that those who refuse to be vaccinated will most likely contract the virus, since the currently dominant delta strain is highly contagious.

The vaccination against COVID-19 has become the biggest immunization campaign in history, with more than 6,03 billion doses administered across 184 countries. The latest vaccination rate was about 31.5 million doses a day.

Moderna's two-dose mRNA vaccine against COIVD-19 was approved by the World Health Organization on April 30, becoming the fifth to receive the global health agency's emergency validation.
