US Freight Volume With Canada, Mexico Up 9% Over Pre-Pandemic Levels in July

The United States freight volume with Canada and Mexico was up 9 percent in July compared to the levels observed in the same month two years earlier, the US Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) said on Wednesday

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd September, 2021) The United States freight volume with Canada and Mexico was up 9 percent in July compared to the levels observed in the same month two years earlier, the US Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) said on Wednesday.

"$111.3 billion of transborder freight moved by all modes of transportation, up 22% compared to July 2020. July 2021 transborder freight was up 8.6% compared to $102.4 billion in pre-pandemic July 2019," BTS said in its monthly transborder freight report.

The freight volume was evenly split between Canada and Mexico, with exchanges between the US and Canada totaling $55.7 billion, while the totals with Mexico amounted to $100 million less at $55.6 billion.

The United States' transborder freight volume totals with Canada were up 28.3% year-over-year and increased by 16.9% with Mexico.

Trucks moved $68.6 billion worth of freight in July, up 13% compared to July 2020 and 7.5% to July 2019. Railways, the second most popular method of transport, moved $15.7 billion of freight, an increase of 21.8% compared to July 2020 and 6.0% compared to July 2019 levels.
