Committee of Swiss Parliament Asks Government to Keep Free COVID-19 Tests

The Social Security and Health Committees of the Swiss parliament's lower house sent an open letter to the country's government on Wednesday urging it to keep COVID-19 testing free for those without symptoms of the disease

ZURICH (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd September, 2021) The Social Security and Health Committees of the Swiss parliament's lower house sent an open letter to the country's government on Wednesday urging it to keep COVID-19 testing free for those without symptoms of the disease.

On October 1, Switzerland will do away with free COVID-19 testing for those who have not been vaccinated against COVID-19. At the same time, since September 13, visitors to museums, as well as bars and restaurants, have been obliged to present a certificate confirming that they have been vaccinated against COVID-19, recovered from the virus, or have a negative test result.

"The Confederation should continue to cover the costs of COVID-19 testing for people who have no symptoms. In addition, the Federal Council (federal government) should define measurable criteria for dispensing the requirement to provide COVID-certificates. These demands are put forward by the Social Security and Health Committees of Swiss National Council in a letter to the Federal Council," the official statement said.

As noted by the parliamentarians, COVID-19 testing, as well as vaccination, contains the spread of the virus and prevents health system overloads.

Local media reported that more than 260,000 people have signed a petition calling on the government to maintain coronavirus tests for unvaccinated people. On Wednesday, the signatures were transferred to the Federal Chancellery.
