New Ruling Parliamentary Coalition Announced in Morocco - Prime Minister

Three political parties in Morocco have formed a ruling governmental coalition, the country's designated prime minister, Aziz Akhannouch, said on Wednesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd September, 2021) Three political parties in Morocco have formed a ruling governmental coalition, the country's designated prime minister, Aziz Akhannouch, said on Wednesday.

"The government majority will be made up of the liberal National Rally of Independents (RNI) and the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM), and the conservative Istiqlal," Akhannouch said at a press conference in Rabat.

The leaders of these parties have agreed to form a new cabinet, which still awaits the ruling monarch's approval.

The development comes a day after King Mohammed VI of Morocco instructed Aziz Akhannouch, the NRI leader, which won the parliamentary elections, to form a new government.

In the September 8 election, the liberal party won 102 of 395 seats in the lower house of the parliament. PAM won 86 seats in parliament, while the Istiklal Party won 81 seats.

Previously, the majority of seats in the lower house 125 belonged to the Justice and Development Party, headed by now former Prime Minister of Morocco, Saad Dine El Otmani.
