Sudanese Private Sector Interested in Russian COVID-19 Vaccines - Foreign Ministry

Private sector in Sudan is interested in cooperation with Russia in the medical field and plans to receive supplies of the Russian COVID-19 vaccines, Sudanese Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammed Sharif said on Wednesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd September, 2021) Private sector in Sudan is interested in cooperation with Russia in the medical field and plans to receive supplies of the Russian COVID-19 vaccines, Sudanese Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammed Sharif said on Wednesday.

"We cooperate with the international community, especially with certain countries. We receive quite a lot of assistance from different states, including vaccines. Now the private sector in Sudan is interested in cooperating with the Russian health authorities, in particular, on the deliveries of the Russian Sputnik vaccine," Sharif said at a press conference in the Rossiya Segodnya information center in Moscow.

Sudanese health authorities have taken necessary measures to prevent the spread of the virus by introducing strict protocols, thanks to which the country has few COVID-19 cases, the deputy foreign minister added.

Sharif also noted that Khartoum has adopted the Russian experience in combating the pandemic and sees many opportunities for future cooperation in this area.

Earlier in the day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told Sputnik the two countries plan to convene a meeting of the bilateral intergovernmental commission in Khartoum by the end of the year.

On Tuesday, the Sudanese government announced it had thwarted a military coup attempt in the country, believed to be organized by supporters of former Sudanese President Omar Bashir. Bashir, who had been at the country's helm for 30 years, was overthrown in a military coup in April 2019 following mass protests over the deteriorating economic situation and declining living standards.
