Sudanese-Russian Intergov't Commission Plans to Convene in Khartoum by Year End - Diplomat

Sudan did not ask Russia to provide a loan during the recent ministerial consultations, the negotiations in Moscow focused on the possibility to convene a meeting of the bilateral intergovernmental commission in Khartoum by the end of the year, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told Sputnik on Wednesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd September, 2021) Sudan did not ask Russia to provide a loan during the recent ministerial consultations, the negotiations in Moscow focused on the possibility to convene a meeting of the bilateral intergovernmental commission in Khartoum by the end of the year, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov told Sputnik on Wednesday.

On Tuesday, Bogdanov met with Sudanese Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammed Sharif, who is on a working visit in Moscow.

"No, they did not request anything," Bogdanov said, asked whether Sudan asked Moscow to provide a loan.

"We agreed that the next meeting of our intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation should be held in Khartoum by the end of the year. We agreed to ask relevant governmental agencies to boost preparations for the session and to hold it in an effective manner," Bogdanov added.

The potential agreement on the construction of a Russian naval base in the Red Sea was also on the agenda, according to the diplomat.

"We also discussed 'hot spots' in the middle East and Africa: Libya, Ethiopia, Yemen and Syria. We touched upon the situation in Mali, Guinea and the Palestinian problematic. We spoke in detail about South Sudan, inter-Sudanese relations and the problem of the Renaissance dam," Bogdanov concluded.
