KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th August, 2016) : President of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) Zahid Saeed has said that dilapidated roads and interruption in electric supply due to rainfall in the city caused heavy losses to the industry. Industry is suffering complications after rainfall in Karachi during previous days, he said in a statement on Monday.
Due to rainfall, infrastructure in Korangi Industrial Area (KIA) became messier, as roads have been damaged and rainwater has been accumulated at many spots, the statement said. He said that due to these problems over 1.5 million workforce of KIA was not able to reach their workplaces on time.
He also said that Korangi Causeway has been flooded and traffic is diverted, this is causing long traffic jams in KIA. "We made it clear to the authorities many times that due to dumping in Malir river area it is feared that in case of heavy rain, KIA and adjacent areas could face flood situation but no action to restrict or remove the dumped garbage and debris has been taken yet." Zahid Saeed urged Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah to take notice of poor infrastructure in KIA and other industrial areas and sanction funds for development projects on a priority basis.
