Child Labour Survey Phase 2 About To Complete; 3rd Phase Next Month

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Augst,2016) : Secretary Labour Punjab, Nawazish Ali Monday said the second phase of Provincial Child Labour Survey would be completed in thirteen districts by August 15. "The government has earmarked Rs 449 million for curbing child labour from the province," he added.
Talking to this scribe at his office, he said the Punjab government was fully committed to eliminate child labour from brick kilns,workshops,petrol pumps, hotels/restaurants, and other areas where children were made to work in hazardous conditions. He said Child Labour Survey project would help reduce child labour,and under-aged children would be enroled in educational and technical institutes for formal education.
He said the government would provide basic education and additional skill development training alongwith stipends to the children.
Quoting statistics of Bureau of Statistics Punjab, compiled in the first phase of the Child Labour Survey, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Okara, Hafizabad, Khanewal, Bahawalnagar, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rahim Yar Khan, Secretary Labour said as many as 5420 children under the age of 14 years were engaged at auto workshops, 71 at petrol pumps while 1636 children were working at hotels/restaurants.
To a question,he said the final phase of Child Labour Survey in the remaining 13 districts would be finished next month. He said services of various NGOs were being obtained for non-formal education of children in collaboration with district governments and Punjab Labour Department.
