PSA Chairman Appointed To Saudi Olympic Committee

Professional Squash Association (PSA) Chairman Ziad Al-Turki has been appointed to the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee alongside several other high-profile professionals in the Saudi sports sector
ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th May, 2021 ) :Professional Squash Association (PSA) Chairman Ziad Al-Turki has been appointed to the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee alongside several other high-profile professionals in the Saudi sports sector.
Since being elected as PSA Chairman in 2008, Al-Turki has been at the forefront of the professional game's growth over the past 13 years, with major events such as the historic merger between the Professional Squash Association and Women's Squash Association (WSA), the creation of the PSA's OTT platform - SQUASHTV - and the sport's first $1,000,000 prize money tournament all happening during his tenure, said a press release issues here.
Playing opportunities and player prize money have also increased significantly since Al-Turki was elected Chairman. The PSA currently has over 1,200 members, up 86% since 2009, while total prize money across the PSA Tour had increased to over $7,500,000 - up from $4,300,000 in 2009 - during the 2018-19 season, which was the final PSA Tour campaign prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Al-Turki has also been a champion for equality and inclusivity within squash and Saudi Arabia, and he played a key role in staging the first ever professional women's squash tournament in Saudi Arabia in 2018.
Al-Turki, who also serves as A. A. Turki Group of Companies (ATCO) Chairman, would hold the position between May 2021 - May 2024 and his role will see him work together with other members of the committee to develop sport in Saudi Arabia.
"It is a great privilege for me to be part of the Saudi Arabian Olympic Committee," said Al-Turki.
?"Participation in sport is on the up in Saudi, and one of the key objectives of the committee is to get people to participate in sport further to create a healthier society.
"The sporting landscape in Saudi Arabia has changed considerably in recent years with an emphasis on diversity and inclusivity, and I'm excited to be able to play a part in helping the committee achieve its goals in this new era for our kingdom," he said.
