KABUL (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th May, 2021) The Taliban have captured five military posts in different areas of Afghanistan, two more have been under attack, sources told Sputnik on Thursday.

Three posts fell in the northern Baghlan province after the Taliban launched an assault on them last night. Soldiers at one of the posts surrendered to the militants, while the other two were abandoned by the troops stationed there.

"Almost all areas of the central Baghlan district of the Baghlan province have been cleared of the enemy. Up to 200 soldiers and police, including key commanders, have joined to the Mujahideen," the Taliban told Sputnik.

Meanwhile, a source in the council of the southeastern Ghazni province said that a military checkpoint in the Arzu area, which was under siege for the last 20 days, was captured last night. Out of 18 soldiers stationed there, six are said to have been killed and the other 12 wounded in clashes with the Taliban. After that, another military post in the same area surrendered to the Taliban as well.

The militants continued their streak by launching heavy assaults on two posts in the Darqad district, located in the northeastern Takhar province, killing one soldier and wounding three others. Another four soldiers are said to have been killed in separate clashes.

While some Taliban militants were also killed, their exact toll of casualties are unknown at the moment.

Violent clashes continue to ravage Afghanistan despite the ongoing peace talks between the government and representatives of the Taliban in the Qatari capital of Doha.
