US Weekly Jobless Claims Dip Below 500,000, Lowest In 14 Months - Labor Dept.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th May, 2021) Some 498,000 Americans filed for jobless claims last week, the lowest since March 2020 and the first below the 500,000 mark since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic last year, the US Labor Department said Thursday.

"In the week ending May 1, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 498,000, a decrease of 92,000 from the previous week's revised level," the department said in a statement. "This is the lowest level for initial claims since March 14, 2020 when it was 256,000."
