MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 06th May, 2021) Taliban militants have attacked a checkpoint in Afghanistan's eastern Logar province, leaving at least five police officers killed, Afghan TOLOnews broadcaster reported on Thursday, citing security sources.
According to the media outlet, the militants ambushed a security outpost on Wednesday night about 500 meters (0.3 mile) from the provincial capital of Pol-e Alam.
The Taliban have not yet commented on the incident.
The security situation in the country remains tense despite the launch of the Kabul-Taliban peace talks in Qatar's Doha last September. The Afghan military continues to regularly report on its special operations against Taliban operatives, who are now said to control about three-fourths of the Afghan land.
