VU Hosts National Symposium On Genetics Testing

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th August, 2016) : Virtual University of Pakistan organized a one-day national symposium titled "Potential Impact of Genetics Testing & Counseling" at MA Jinnah Campus, here on Thursday. Eminent personalities from academia and corporate sector attended the event.
The symposium comprised of technical sessions to highlight the importance of genetic testing in prevention of cancer, prenatal diagnosis and cardiovascular genetics. The speakers shared their experiences and research work on genetics testing highlighting that marriage within family may result in high frequency of genetic disease prevalence. They further discussed several preventive strategies to reduce the genetic disease burden.
Dr Fareed Ahmad Khan, Chairman Sheikh Zayad Medical Institute, Lahore was the chief guest whereas noted microbiologist and educationist Prof Dr Sheikh Riazuddin graced the occasion as guest of honour. Dr Naveed A Malik, Rector Virtual University of Pakistan acknowledged the speakers and delegates from the universities for their participation and the organizers from Department of Molecular Biology for their untiring efforts to make this event a success. Dr Masroor Elahi Babar, Registrar, Dr.
Muhammad Nawaz, Advisor DQE and Prof Dr Muhammad Sharif Mughal also attended the event.
