River Indus Continues To Run In Low Flood

ISLAMABAD,(UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th August, 2016) The Federal Flood Commission (FFC) has said that the River Indus continues to flow in Low Flood at Guddu Barrage. According to daily FFC report, all main rivers including Rivers Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi & Sutlej are flowing normal. The river flows and reservoir elevations indicates that Tarbela & Mangla reservoirs are at elevations of 1523.50 feet and 1235.20 feet respectively, which are 26.50 feet & 6.80 feet below their respective Maximum Conservation Levels of 1550.00 feet and 1242.00 feet.

The combined live storage capacity of Tarbela, Chashma & Mangla reservoirs is 11.989 MAF as compared to last year’s 13.374 MAF. According to Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, yesterday's Monsoon Low over Orissa (India) today lies over Northeastern Madhya Pradesh (India), whereas yesterday's trough of Westerly Wave over Northeastern Iran lies over Northern parts of Afghanistan.

Another Low Pressure area has developed over Northwestern Bay of Bengal. Seasonal Low still persists over Northern Balochistan. Moderate moist current is penetrating into lower parts of the country upto 5000 feet. As predicted by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore, scattered thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls is expected over Southern Punjab (Bahawalpur Division), Sindh and Northeastern Balochistan during the next 24 hours. Isolated thunderstorm/ rain may occur over upper catchments of all major rivers including Northern Punjab (Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Gujranwala & Lahore Divisions) and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (Peshawar, Kohat & D.

I Khan Divisions).

Low to Medium Flood is expected in Hill Torrents of D.G. Khan Division during the same period. Scattered thunderstorm/rain with isolated heavy falls and one or two very heavy falls is expected over the upper catchments of Rivers Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi & Sutlej including North & Northeastern Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 6th August 2016.

Scattered rains over Southern Punjab, Sindh and Northeastern Balochistan are likely to continue during the next 72 hours i.e from 5th August to 7th August 2016. Heavy rainfall may generate flash flood flows in the local nullahs (the tributaries of Rivers Chenab & Ravi), Hill Torrents of D.G.

Khan Division and Balochistan during the same period. All concerned authorities are advised to remain ALERT, watch the situation closely and take all necessary precautionary measures in order to avoid loss of human lives and damage to private and public property.

Significant rainfall events reported by the Flood Forecasting Division, Lahore during the past 24 hours, include; Thatta = 44 mm, Badin = 43 mm, Mirpur Khas = 31 mm, Hyderabad = 27 mm, Chhor = 23 mm, Kakul = 19 mm, Mithi = 14 mm, Rohri = 12 mm, Shaheed Benazirabad = 11 mm, Parachinar & Shorkot = 10 mm each.
