LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th August, 2016) : A two-member bench of the Supreme Court on Thursday sought a report from the Punjab government within two weeks regarding installation of billboards/hoardings at public places. The bench asked the government as well as other respondents to explain as to how installation of huge billboards/hoardings, which could endanger people's lives, was permitted at public places, parks, roads, footpaths and other places. "Such properties are meant for public use and are annuity properties in nature.
Under what authority of law this is permissible," the bench questioned. The bench further held that "this order is passed in line with the orders, passed by the court in a suo motu action about the billboards/hoardings and direction to remove the same in Karachi." The bench of Justice Mian Saqib Nisar and Justice Faisal Arab passed the orders while hearing a petition regarding issuance of an NOC for installation of publicity boards at Supreme Court Lahore Registry.
