Responding to a question, he said use of contact lenses is not advisable for every one and people, prior to the use of eye lenses, must necessarily get their eyes duly examined by a qualified eye specialist. "People with complaint of arthritis, joint problems, glaucoma, allergy and dryness in eye must not use contact lenses under any condition," he said.

He regretted absence of any regulatory authority and non-existent arrangement for registration adding that these gaps encouraged smuggling in of contact lenses and their vigorous marketing at the cost of eyesight.
