Potohar Region Ideal For Olive Cultivation

RAWALPINDI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Augst,2016) : Potohar region is ideal for production of olive and cultivators should get acquainted of its vitality and introduce latest production technologies of harvesting and irrigation methods. RCCI President Humayun Pervez said on Monday. He was speaking at a seminar arranged by the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) here in collaboration with USAID funded Punjab Enabling Environment Project (PEEP). He said the Punjab government was taking keen interest in developing the agriculture sector.

He said the government had declared Potohar region an 'olive valley', as the area possesses ideal climatic conditions and land for commercial cultivation of olive. The PEEP representative presented an overview of the project's matching grants, as well as initiatives being offered for the development of olive sector.

The training seminar was to promote olive sector by raising awareness among olive farmers for olive production technologies, harvesting practices, and irrigation schedule. RCCI President Mian humayun Parvez, Senior Vice President Saqib Rafiq, Vice President Muhammad Aqil Obaid, Chief of party, USAID - Punjab Enabling Environment Project (PEEP) Muhammad Junaid, Investment Promotion Specialist, Imran Chaudhry, HICD Specialist, Ali Khan, Regional Manager SMEDA Muhammad Asghar, members of the RCCI executive Committee and a large number of potential investors and traders attended the Seminar.
