World Olympic To Be Celebrated In Jamrud, Khyber Agency On July 8

PESHAWAR, July 7 (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 07th Jul, 2017 ) : FATA Olympic Association will celebrate World Olympic Day in Tehsil Jamrud Khyber Agency, FATA, wherein hundreds and thousands of players from various games, sports officials, organizers and sports lover would attend.
This was stated by President FATA Olympic Association while address a press conference here on Friday. Vice President FATA Olympic Association Noor Aslam, Secretary FATA Volleyball, Archery, Jujitsu, Boxing, Wrestling, Bodybuilding, Cycling, Hockey, Football, Judo, Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Badminton, along with President and Secretaries of various others associations affiliated with FATA Olympic Association were also present.
He said all arrangement in this connection have already been completed for the smooth conducted on the World Olympic Day for the first time in FATA. He said a Peace Walk will start from Tehsil Jamrud Sports Complex and will culminate at Bab-e-Khyber.
Shahid Khan Shinwari said that the aim and objective of celebrating the day is to give a message of peace to the rest of the world. He said that sports and youth of FATA have suffered badly due to insurgency and militancy.
"Our youth had been confined to their home with lack of healthy sports activities but after forming of FATA Olympic Association in June 2011 they have organized many sports activities. It would be for the first time that such step has been taken to celebrate World Olympic Day".
He also lauded President Pakistan Olympic Association Lt. Gen (Retd) Arif Hassan and Syed Aqil Shah for helping out the youth of FATA and affiliated FATA Olympic Association with Pakistan Olympic Association.
Although the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has declared as June 23 the World Olympic Day but because it falls in Ramzan, the President of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) Lt. Gen (Retd) Arif Hassan decided to observe it in all across Pakistan including provincial capitals on Friday (June 7-8).
The day was introduced by IOC in way back 1948 to celebrate the birth of modern Olympics on June 23, 1894 at the Sorbonne in Paris. The Olympic Games was started for conflict prevention and since then it is a symbol of peace in the world, Shahid Khan Shinwari said.
He said through this way we can highlight FATA and its talented youth. A request would also be made on the day to the President POA for extending all-out support to FATA Olympic Association so it can be able to hold different sports activities in all across FATA.
He disclosed that they have invited people from different walk of life including former Sports Minister KP and Vice President Pakistan Olympic Association Syed Aqil Shah, Political Agency Khyber Captain (Retd) Khalid Mehmood to grace the occasion.
