ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Aug, 2017 ) : Pakistani woman squash player Maria Toor Pakai has vowed to establish a sports fund for underprivileged boys and girls in Pakistan.
Toor, who is also a member of International Olympic Committee's (IOC) Women Commission, has urged parents to give equal opportunities and support to their children, especially daughters, when choosing sports of their choice.
"I am planning to establish a sports fund for needy children who have the potential to become sports stars, but don't have the resources. For that purpose I will seek government help as well as private donations, albawaba.com quoted her as saying.
Meanwhile Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) Honorary Secretary Wing Commander Tahir Sultan backed Toor's thought for establishing a sports fund. "We have been continuously talking about this in our meetings that the higher authorities should pay special focus on sports," he told APP.
He said Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman, President, PSF is doing all-out efforts to promote the game in the country and to make it accessible for all. "Squash is a an expensive game and PSF and Squash Associations across the country have been putting in plentiful efforts to make the game reachable to every player providing courts and other facilities," he said.
