New York, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 28th May, 2018 ) :Japanese pitching ace Masahiro Tanaka continued his dominance over Shohei Ohtani, striking out the rookie phenom twice as the New York Yankees beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-1 on Sunday.
The 23-year-old Ohtani has taken the North American baseball by storm this season with his success as both a pitcher and batter. But he didn't fare well in his first MLB meeting against Tanaka, striking out in the first and sixth innings.
In 2013, Ohtani went 0-for-11 with a half dozen strikeouts and a walk as a batter against Tanaka who is six years older.
In six innings of work on Sunday, Tanaka struck out eight, allowed just one run and three hits as the Yankees recorded the series clinching win at home.
Heading into the series there was plenty of excitement about a possible pitching matchup between the two. But the Angels decided to push back Ohtani's next start and it is now expected to be Wednesday against Detroit.
