The inauguration of the Qayyum Sports Complex building Tuesday was stopped after a row erupted between the Sports Minister and Advisor to CM over the installation of inauguration plaque at the building site
PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Nov, 2017 ) :The inauguration of the Qayyum Sports Complex building Tuesday was stopped after a row erupted between the Sports Minister and Advisor to CM over the installation of inauguration plaque at the building site.
PTI workers led by MPA and Advisor to CM Arif Yousaf reached the venue shouting slogans against Sports Minister KP Mehmud Khan, present at the venue. The PTI workers hailing from constituency PK-4 threatened the sports minister against inauguration of sports complex building.
They argued it was the right of the MPA concerned to perform the inauguration ceremony. The row took an ugly turn when the Chief Minister KP intervened through a telephone call directing the minister, and his advisor to leave the venue of the building without inauguration.
The chief minister expressing annoyance over the said incident has said that he would himself inaugurate the project in due course of time. The Advisor to CM Arif Yusaf claimed that since he belonged to the constituency where the project had been completed therefore it was his prerogative to inaugurate the project.
Whereas the sports minister, who hailed from Swat District said that being In-charge Minister of Sports, has the sole right to perform the inauguration of the project. He claimed that Chief Minister Pervez Khattak had directed him to inaugurate the building by unveiling the plaque.
Meanwhile, the PTI workers from the constituency of Arif Yusaf chanted slogans against the sports minister and threatened not to allow him perform the inauguration. The hullabaloo continued for over four hours in the stadium and as such the event was postponed.
Director General Sports KP Junaid Khan announced the postponement of the event after the ugly incident between the sports minister and the Advisor to CM. The DG sports in a bid to pacify the situation presented a suggestion to mention both the Names on the plaque but none agreed.
Though both the names were pasted on the plaque but did not work. The historic Qayyum Sports Complex was inaugurated in 1952 by the then Chief Minister Khan Abdul Qayyum Khan.
